Joe Osterstock (b. 2000) is a composer, arranger, and violinist based in Salt Lake City, Utah. A storyteller by nature, narrative and imagery are the heart of Joe’s creative process. His music blends classical, synthesis, and historical and folklore influences to invite audiences to explore the sonic worlds he creates and to inspire new perspectives.
Joe’s works have been premiered by groups such as the Empire Film and Media Ensemble (Egyptian Melodies with a new score by Joe Osterstock, 2026), The Uinta Trio (Aria for Piano Trio, 2023), Utah Valley University Symphony Orchestra (The Cattish Dance and Trio, 2022), 4m Percussion (Lemon Sorbet, 2026), as well as soloists Sam Chandler (Petals on the Wind, 2026), and Sohee Bae (Americana, 2026).
Joe has ten years of chamber, symphony, and baroque performance experience, and has performed in the Collegium Baroque ensemble at the Eastman School of Music. As a composer and producer, Joe has worked with MB Gordy, Cecilia Tsan, Alyssa Park, Alin Melik-Adamyan, Nicole Pinnell, Monte Belknap, Michael McQuay, Aaron Ashton, Gavin McMahan, Ian Oliver, Ray (Xudong) Zheng, Grace Belsie, and Sam Chandler. He has performed on projects for artists such as Jessica Baio, Rick Hale, Strive to Be, Sail North, Katy Nicole, Pickleville Playhouse, Gavin McMahan, Trevor Price, Odysseas Papathanasiou, Bill Liu, TravisMathew, Spylt, and BYU Sports Nation.
Joe continues to work with Benjamin Taylor & Jeff Broadbent as an assistant program director and instructor at the Music Creators Academy.
Joe has earned several honors and awards, including the ASMAC Pat Williams Composing & Arranging Competition 2nd place (2025); LDSPMA 1st place prize for Religious Music Cover/Arrangement with Abby Elwood, Pati Osterstock, & Mitch Davis (2023); ASCAP Morton Gould Young Composers (2023), finalist; Canares Competition (2023), composition finalist; and Concerto Night, selectee for composition (2022), Utah Valley University.
Joe graduated Summa Cum Laude as the valedictorian for the School of the Arts at Utah Valley University in 2023 with a Bachelors in commercial music. He holds a Masters in Contemporary Media and Film Composition as part of the Beal Institute from the Eastman School of Music in 2026.
Joe’s composition mentors include Emmy Award winning composers Mark Watters and Jeff Beal, as well as Dave Rivello, Charlie Han, Nathan Hofheins, and Peter Murray.
